Packaging Testing Services

The FSSAI (Food Safety Standards Authority Of India) under the Gazette Notification and in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (k) of sub-section (2) of section 92, read with section 23 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006) and in super-session of the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011, in so far as they relate to the packaging regulations, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India hereby makes the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018 which shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette and that Food Business Operator shall comply with all the provisions of these regulations by 1st July, 2019.

Under the new notification, every food business operator shall ensure that the packaging material used in their product shall be in accordance with the above regulations.

The Gazette notification clearly defines the requirements under the new regulation. The regulation also clearly defines the specific testing requirements for Primary Packaging Material that comes in direct contact with food like :

  • Paper and board materials
  • Glass Containers
  • Metal & metal alloys
  • Plastic Materials (PVC, PET, Polystyrene, PP, Nylon, PP, EVA, LDPE, HDPE, Cling Films etc)

The regulation also lists down the suggestive packaging materials for varied food products.
