It is the semi solid slurry produced from various biological and physiochemical processes. It is generated from water treatment plants or sewage treatment plants. The same kind of semi solid waste is also generated from many industrial processes. The Sludge needs to be tested so as to ensure that it is free from any non- biodegradable matter or any other toxic heavy metal for its safe disposal into the land.
For the safe disposal, sludge should comply to The Hazardous Wastes (Management, Handling and Trans boundary Movement) Rules, (2016).
