The requirement for testing food and agricultural products at each stage during its lifecycle from farm to fork has become increasingly important with each day that passes. The growing consumer awareness towards health, hygiene and safety of these products along with the complex regulatory environment implies that your product must comply with the relevant standards before they can be sold. The manufacturers, traders and importers are being held liable for sub-standard food products resulting in multi-fold losses to business and brand value.

If you are involved in the direct or indirect supply chain for cattle, aquaculture, poultry, swine and any other livestock feed, you need to know that the right nutrients are included in the right quantities. It’s also vital that the feed does not exceed the maximum allowed amounts of mycotoxins, antibiotics, other veterinary drugs, pesticides and other chemical contaminants. Animals that eat nutrient-poor or mycotoxin-high feed will not grow properly and will produce lower-than-normal levels of milk and fewer eggs. The animals are also likely to become ill and could even die – which also happens when there are excessive pesticides levels and chemical contaminants present.
If the level of veterinary drugs is too low, they will not work effectively. If it is too high, there will be unacceptable traces in the milk, eggs and other food destined for human consumption. Consumers need to be sure that their food has passed all of the appropriate tests for contamination.
Effective 1st July 2021 onwards all cattle feed manufacturers producing commercial feed materials meant for meat and milk producing animals will need to be in compliances with BIS standards and require BIS certification.
